BeritaNasional.com -   The Little Penguin student organization from the British School Jakarta together with Redpumpkin.AI launched the Good Karma initiative, an artificial intelligence-based application designed to organize volunteer visits to nursing homes while improving the quality of interactions with the elderly.

Through this platform, volunteers can register, select their destination nursing home, and collect appreciation points. Furthermore, nursing homes can easily monitor volunteer activities in real time within a single, integrated system.

AI to Bring People Closer, Not Replace Interactions

Good Karma's development takes a different approach. Redpumpkin.AI introduces GenAI technology, which focuses not only on automation but also on humanizing interactions.

One of its key features is the AI Companion for Volunteers, which is designed to bridge the communication gap between generations.

This feature helps young volunteers who often feel awkward interacting with the elderly by providing recommended conversation topics and activity ideas tailored to the profiles and interests of the residents.

In this way, each visit is expected to be more fluid, warm, and meaningful.

This collaboration doesn't stop with the initial launch. The Good Karma program will be implemented through a socialization phase in nursing homes, while also opening up opportunities for broader collaboration to expand its social impact.

In the future, this concept will also be expanded to the education sector under the Little Penguin umbrella, with a similar approach to help teachers understand students' needs more personally through AI technology.

Impact on Elderly Health

From a health perspective, the presence of volunteers is considered to have a significant impact on the physical activity of seniors. Dr. Henry Suhendra, Sp.OT(K), explained that social interaction plays a crucial role in maintaining their mobility.

"Seniors' health depends on mobility. The principle is simple: sit rather than sleep, stand rather than sit, walk rather than stand, and be active rather than just walk. The presence of volunteers through Good Karma provides mental stimulation to motivate seniors to keep moving," explained Dr. Henry, as quoted in his statement, Wednesday (May 19, 2026).

The British School Jakarta also views this program as a tangible form of learning for students. Good Karma is seen not just as a technology project, but also as a means of character development through direct involvement in social issues.

Adimas Grahito, a school representative, emphasized that this initiative demonstrates how education can become more relevant when students are faced with real challenges in society.

Meanwhile, Little Penguin Founder, Sean William, along with Little Penguin Public Relations, Keana Gardon, emphasized that Good Karma was designed as a social bridge between the younger and older generations.

"We designed Good Karma as a bridge. We want seniors to feel heard again. After this, our focus will be on bringing the AI solution we've created in collaboration with Redpumpkin.AI to the world of education to empower teachers and fellow students," said Sean.

With this vision, Good Karma is not only positioned as a volunteer app, but also as a model for utilizing AI to strengthen empathy, education, and intergenerational connections.
